The State of Georgia is making stem cell news this month after State Senator Bruce Thompson, who also chairs the Senate Science and Technology Committee, said he thinks Georgia can be a leader in the field of stem cell research.
To examine the issue, Sen. Thompson (R-White) will devote his time this summer and fall to serve on a study committee titled “Nonembryonic and Nonfetal Cell Therapy.” [See: Senate Resolution 1059]
“We’ve got the hospitals; we’ve got the technology already there,” Senator Bruce Thompson said. “We just need the regulations in place.”
The First State
His vision? To make Georgia “the very first state in the Union to be able to put the structure in place where not only harvesting can take place…but we would have a safe environment for adult stem ell administration to take place.”
Sen. Thompson expressed his views to members of the Adairsville Council of the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce on May 5, 2016.
Sen. Thompson even mentioned the fact that famous Denver Broncos Quarterback Peyton Manning received stem cell therapy treatments in 2011 with great success to help support his argument to the crowd of business leaders.

Tank Commander-turned-Science Advocate
The former U.S. military tank commander is a Republican running for re-election this year in the 14th district in the Georgia State Senate, which includes parts of Bartow, Cherokee, and Cobb counties. First elected in 2013, Bruce filled the resigned seat of now-Congressman Barry Loudermilk. Bruce was re-elected without opposition in 2014, and began his second term in January 2015.
