The National Stem Cell Foundation (NSCF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to advancing adult stem cell and regenerative medicine research to develop curative therapies for major diseases. Founded to bridge research, education, and advocacy, NSCF funds innovative projects, supports access to clinical trials for underserved children with rare diseases, and promotes STEM education to inspire future scientists. By fostering collaborations and covering financial barriers like copays and deductibles, NSCF aims to accelerate breakthroughs in conditions such as neurological disorders, diabetes, spinal cord injuries, and rare pediatric illnesses, making life-changing treatments accessible to all.
Programs and Initiatives
- Research Funding: Grants for adult stem cell research and early-stage clinical trials, partnering with institutions to explore regenerative therapies for diseases like stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, and birth defects.
- Access to Trials: Financial assistance (e.g., copays, deductibles) for children from limited-resource families participating in rare disease clinical trials, including bone marrow transplants.
- National STEM Scholar Program: Scholarships and professional development for middle school science teachers (grades 6-9) to implement innovative “Challenge Projects,” held annually at Western Kentucky University’s Gatton Academy; applications open November to February.
- Advocacy and Education: Public resources on stem cell basics, warnings about unproven treatments, and efforts to expand donor pools for transplants.
All initiatives emphasize ethical, evidence-based approaches aligned with FDA guidelines.
